Knowledge Portals

Knowledge is perhaps one of the most valuable organisational assets and as such should be managed well.

Knowledge sharing concerns the provision and distribution of information across all areas of a company. It is vital that companies practice knowledge sharing to ensure that they are optimising and providing the best possible service to their customers and to ensure that projects reach above satisfactory completion on time and on budget

The web is currently one of the best-suited platforms to share knowledge between employees and customers alike, thus encouraging greater collaboration between all areas in a company. One such way of sharing information is the development of knowledge Portals.

A portal is a single point gateway to multiple information sources. There are different types of portal currently available for example, those that are used by web surfers to view news, weather, sports and emails from a single interface and those that are used to keep employees in an organization better informed on products, services, company news, company information and development within the company as well as access to company documentation from any where in the field. Portals simplify the flow of information within an organization and act as a one-stop shop for employees and customers alike.

JKNA have developed a knowledge portal that is currently being used internally by the Department of Computing Science at the University of Aberdeen (see our portfolio).

This portal brings together document management, semantic web, profiling and software agent technologies to deliver a knowledge portal that goes beyond simple document management technology. The portal through a web interface provides tools such as simple document queries, agent-based notification/alert services, automatic document classification, annotation services and much more.

Each portal can be uniquely customised to suit the needs of the individual business or organization. For further information on knowledge portals and document management systems please contact us - enquiry@jkna.com
